Serial Killers Haicut the new album In The Bag by Justin Berkovi.
After several releases on Mosquito, Sativae, Projex, Djax-up-beats,
Predicaments (his own imprint) and his debut-longplayer "Charm Hostel"
on Force Inc. JUSTIN BERKOVI introduces his first release on HARTHOUSE.
The album IN THE BAG is an inspired piece of work fusing many elements
of electronic music into his own personal style that favours "songs"
rather than DJ-tools. Many see the point of techno nowadays as simply
easy to mix loops,
beats and patterns - FALSE! For Justin Berkovi techno is about soul,
emotion and futuristic sound-research. The tone of IN THE BAG is quite
introspective and dark in some places but more "relentless" than his
previous releases. The intro-track "Nightflight" sets you in the right
mood and takes you onto the journey through abstract-, club-soundtrack-,
and dance-music while the last track "sometimes, often" ejects you again.
The first single takeout release on Harthouse will be "You're So Alien"
with "Plastic Bed 45" on the flipside - watch out for remixes (by Dave
Tarrida) on Serial Killers Haircut. |

Justin Berkovi - In The Bag (Harthouse)
Nach einem ungewissen Neustart und der Übernahme durch die UCMG-Gruppe
scheint sich Harthouse mit Justin Berkovi genau den Richtigen ausgesucht
zu haben, um mit dem Relaunch einen Triumph der geraden und machtvollen
Bassdrum zu feiern. Berkovis Motivation war es, sein hartes Material mit
dem eher abstrakten Klangspektrum seiner Foce-Inc.-Releases fusionieren
zu lassen, um einer alternativen Clubmusik, die sich abseits der
üblichen Loop-Tools nach Tiefe bückt, den Weg zu ebnen. Alternativ sein
heißt bei ihm natürlich nicht, ein Fusselbärtchen zu tragen oder sich in
Klangkunst zu verlieren, sondern meint irre rockende Prime-Time-Tracks
für den Technofloor, die sich in einer fast schon altmodischen Fülle der
Sounds nach vorne bewegen. Metallisch, dominant peitschend und von einem
Rave-Appeal besessen, den man so von der No-Future-Posse nicht unbedingt
erwartet hätte. Dekonstruktionen oder atmosphärische Zauderer bleiben
außen vor und das kann man in dem Zusammenhang als durchaus befreiend
empfinden. Insgesamt eine Platte, die vor allem DJs für ihre enorme
Leistungsbereitschaft lieben werden. (TT) |
